Hello! I’m Tengku Hana Shafikah.

  • I currently study Computer Engineering, B.S. at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering.

  • I have previously worked at Amazon as Design Technologist Intern and at Google as a Teaching Assistant for their summer programming program CSSI-Coursera.

  • Outside of school, I am a freelance designer and developer. I create static and animated designs for promotional materials, provide design consultations for new projects, and build hardware product designs for production.

  • I am the founder and lead engineer of PepperPet, a startup that creates augmented reality experiences and interactive digital pets for children.

  • I graduated from the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts as a visual arts and academics major.

Bio

Education

Tengku Hana Shafikah is an 22 year-old Malaysian designer, developer and entrepreneur based in New York, currently a Computer Engineering student at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering. She graduated from the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts as a visual arts and academics major. She is self-taught in pursuing her interests in graphic design, web development, 3D modeling & animation, and game development.

Work Experience

She has previously worked at Amazon as Design Technologist Intern and at Google as a Teaching Assistant for their summer programming program CSSI-Coursera. Outside of school, she actively works as a freelance designer and developer. She mainly creates static and animated designs for promotional materials, provide design consultations for new projects, and build hardware product designs for production. She has also done freelance work as a Graphic Designer & Creative Director for ArtsConnection. Her commissioned designs have been used for various ArtsConnection Teen Programs promotional materials, including print collateral, apparel, mascot illustrations, and social media marketing material.

During her freshman year at NYU Tandon, she founded PepperPet – a startup that creates augmented reality experiences and interactive digital pets for children. PepperPet has received numerous awards, such as the Nick Russo Award for Outstanding General Engineering Design (Fall 2018), NYU Prototyping Fund Award (Spring 2019), NYU InnoVention Competition Audience Choice Award (Spring 2019), and first place for the NYU Tandon General Engineering Rapid Assembly and Prototyping Challenge (Fall 2018).

Exhibited Works & Awards

Hana has studied at the Arts Students League of New York and has had her art work exhibited at the Phyllis Mason Harrison gallery. She was the Silver Winner of the United States Toyota Dream Car Contest 2014, and her works have received Honorable Mention in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards 2015 in the Film & Animation, and Drawing & Illustration categories. In 2016, one of her animation films won a Silver Key for the Film & Animation category for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Through ArtsConnection’s Student Art Program, Hana’s award winning artwork has been exhibited in the Music Box Theater in NYC for the multiple Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, Soroban Capital Partners corporate office in New York City, and was in the Dedalus Foundation gallery in Brooklyn.

Extracurriculars

In the Spring and Summer of 2020, Hana was invited to take part in the Google Software Product Sprint twice, an invite-only 11-week virtual program where participants design and build open-source software using the Google Cloud Platform. While attending high school, Hana participated in the Teen Reviewers & Critics Program at ArtsConnection NYC. She then took the role as the Outreach Manager Intern of the Teen Advisory Council Senior Committee team at ArtsConnection. Other programs she participated in include the Harvard Institute Program and Columbia University Splash! Program.

During her elementary school years, she was a part of the Petrosains Science Scouts and Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra Training Ensemble.
